Tore Furevik has been the director of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research since 2014, taking over after Eystein Jansen. When becoming managing director of the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre on 1 July 2021, he will lead one of our four partner institutions.
The Bjerknes Centre is a collaboration between the Nansen Center, the University of Bergen, NORCE and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, initiated in the year 2000.
Tore Furevik sees this as a suitable time to change posts.
"I have been responsible for managing our financial support from the Ministry of Education and Research for more than ten years, the last seven as director of the Bjerknes Centre. As continued support for the Bjerknes Centre has now been confirmed, this is a good time to leave the helm to someone else", says Furevik
Stays in the house
The Nansen Center has started the process of moving into the East wing of the Geophysical Institute, the building also housing several other Bjerknes Centre partners.
Researchers from the Nansen Center will then be united with their partner researchers at NORCE and the Geophysical institute, as well as the Meteorological Institute.
"It will be exiting to see the result of this large research environment finally physically united. With a common canteen, meeting rooms and not least important, the garden, everything should be in place for a fruitful cooperation", Furevik says.
