Join the MOOC on Causes of Climate Change

April 2020: As the world closes down, we open again the MOOC on Causes of Climate Change. Our researchers Kerim Nisancioglu, Anaïs Bretones, Mari Fjalstad Jensen, Asgeir Sorteberg and Jonathan W. Rheinlænder will answer questions!

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) «Causes of Climate Change» is developed by Professors Kerim Nisancioglu and Asgeir Sorteberg at UiB and Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, on the FutureLearn service.

“In this MOOC we will try to answer many of the key questions relating to the dynamics of the climate system and what drives it. We will also take you on a brief tour of past changes in climate and their causes, as well as discuss the implications of man made emissions of greenhouse gases," Professor Nisancioglu says.

"Through this course we can reach audiences internationally, and give students with otherwise no access to higher education a world-class course."

The free online course "Causes of Climate Change" provides the basis for understanding the underlying physical processes governing climate variations in the past, present and future.

In the course, we focus on explaining the main external forcing mechanisms such as the sun, volcanoes, and changes in greenhouse gasses and aerosols, which can contribute to changing the global energy budget and initiate climate variations.

It is also possible to attend the postgraduate course "Causes of Climate Change" as a student of UiB.

The MOOC is open for everyone, but a high school education and an interest in physics is expected. One of the targets of the course is also recruitment of new students to the geo sciences and climate.
