The Arctic Frontiers conference is an international forum for discussion Arctic issues. This years key questions are ecosystems and how to manage and mitigate risks when new areas of the Arctic ocean is accessible. A top heavy opening of the Arctic Frontiers gathered prime ministers and ministers from Arctic countries monday, discussing a changing Arctic.
A good group of researchers at the UiB and Uni research attends the conference throughout the week. As President of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, UNESCO, UiB and Bjerknes Professor Peter Haugan participates in the Monday session on the oceans potential for economic development.
Tor Eldevik, professor in oceanography at UiB and the Bjerknes Centre, moderates the opening plenum session of the scientific programme at the conference Wednesday. Eldevik has been engaged in the Arctic Frontiers since 2014, and is a member of the Strategic Science Committee, planning themes for the coming years.
Carin Andersson at Uni Research and Bjerknessenteret has the last years build a research group on sclerochronology, to study marine paleoclimates. In the Thursday session on new tools for impact analysis, her group with Fabian Bonitz and Tamara Trofimova at Uni Research and Bjerknessenteret will present their results.
