Josh Dorrington

I am a postdoc working on understanding extreme rainfall in a changing climate. In particular, I think about the large-scale flow patterns which make extreme rainfall more likely today. How will those patterns -- which even low-resolution climate models can represent -- alter in a warming world, and how much of the predicted trends in rainfall are tied to these `rainfall precursors'?
By asking these questions I hope to deepen our understanding of how climate change impacts weather patterns and rainfall, explore the strengths and weaknesses of different models, and improve our confidence in our extreme rainfall climate projections.

I also have strong interests in the predictability of the Earth system, and am keen to see more dialogue between weather prediction specialists and climate scientists.
